Opera Estate Primary School
Monday, May 18, 2009 10:16 PM
This was sent to me by Serene. Found it to be pretty interesting since I'm seldom asked about my primary school. And when I'm asked, my reply will always have people asking 'Do you all sing opera there?', then they start pretending to sing opera. LOL. I think it's a pretty low-profile school, not many people know where it's located. Well, it's located in Opera Estate. Hahaha. Okay la, Opera Estate is between Siglap and Chai Chee.

I definitely miss those times where I can sleep late, leave house 5 minutes before school starts and still reach school just seconds before the bell rings. Because I was living super near the school, in fact, I lived in the pink condo just opposite the school?!?! Been living there until I moved to Changi 2 years ago. Argh, why did I move?!?! If I'm still living there, it would take me less than 15 minutes to get home from TJ because TJ's only like 3 or 4 bus stops away? As compared to now when I've to take a 30-min bus ride just to get home? Sigh.

Anyway, primary school life to me, was perhaps the most carefree period of my life. I didn't have to worry about school work and stress was non-existent. Studying, for me, meant browsing through the textbook the day before the exam. No memorising, no stuggling to understand concepts or whatsoever. PSLE was a breeze, except sometimes I do regret not studying harder and getting into an elite school so that I ccould choo-train my way through secondary school and JC. Haha.

So anyway here's the tag Serene sent me:
1) Which school did you go to?
Opera Estate Primary School. 奥匹垃小学.

2) What classes were you in?
1-2, 2-Jupiter, 3-Jupiter, 4-Jupiter, 5-Jupiter, 6-Jupiter (Jupiter FTW!)

3) What was/were your favourite lesson(s)?
Chinese, because I like 余老师 alot. And yes, I do remember that in Pri 3, my group would always compete to see who's the first to complete our 习字.

4) If you could remember, what time was your recess?
Can't remember the timing.

5) List down your favourite food/snacks.
-Maggi Mee from Malay stall(owned by Rashidah's parents) in the old OEPS. It's super cheap(ranged from 20 to 50 cents) and nice. Until now, I still can remember the taste but I've never eaten another maggi mee that taste this nice after the stall moved away.

-Malay food in holding site. Very spicy food!

-Fish and Chips from Western Food stalls in new OEPS. But the portion just kept getting smaller as the days went by. LOL.

Style

1) Did you have a nickname way back in primary school?
Don't think so. Does Mophead counts? Had really horrible hair then and I'm still reminded daily now by my EZ-link card!!! AAAHHH.

2) How did you wear your socks?
Not knee-length, but still above ankle.

3) Have you been suspended due to the way you put on your uniform?
Nope, our uniforms was the no-need-to-tuck-in kind. So there was nothing much to catch.

4) Were you given plenty of reminders about your appearance?
Nope.

5) Who did you look up to when you were in primary school?
Mrs Seah, 余老师, Ms Lim

Punishment

1) Name one memorable scene where you were punished in front of the whole class.
Nope, I was Miss Goody-Two-Shoes.

2) How many times did you skip class? What were you doing?
Never.

3) Give one scene where you escaped from being caught/punished.
Can't remember or it never happened.

4) Did you vandalize any school property
Nope.

5) Did you ever make any teacher cry?
Nope.

6) Who was your favourite teacher?
Mrs Seah, 余老师(best chinese teacher ever!), Ms Lim

7) Describe your DM.
Mr Chua. Skinny. Dark. Scary-looking. I think he looked like some Japanese Occupation soldier.

8) Who was the funniest/weirdest/loudest teacher?
Mdm Sim. She was never my teacher but I remembered she always performed for Chinese New Year celebration.

Social Circle

1) Were you popular back then?
Nope.

2) Were you in a big group of boys/girls or small ones?
Small group of girls.

3) Who were your best friends?
Hweeli, Zhiying, Fongzhi, Kiara

4) Did you and your friends have nicknames?
Nope.

5) What were your favourite memories of you and your friends?
Playing crocodile at the Fitness Corner's sit-up benches, playing Ice-&-Water, catching what-you-call-that(beehinds or something like that, it's an insect which look very much like a bee but it doesn't have a sting) and putting them into containers, hanging out at the empty space behind classroom block.

Co-curricular Activities

1) What type of CCA were you in?
No CCA. I was super slack. Does going for 2 trainings of table tennis count? My mom made me quit after that.

2) What did you have to bring to your CCA?
NA

3) What did your CCA require you to do?
NA

4) Got injured?
Nope.

1) Who was your first crush?
Nah, I was too immature to realise that boys existed and that you are supposed to like someone as you grow older. To me then, guys and girls were the same species. I think we were pretty much at the phase where both genders avoid each other as if the other has cooties or something. And people made fun of you if you like a certain guy in class. And when you finally went to sec school, you realise that it's childish and immature actually.

2) Are you in good terms with your last crush?
NA

3) Did you ever had a relationship with anyone in your primary school?
NA

4) Have you ever made out in school?
NA

Closing Ceremony

1) How did primary school change you?
Made me realise that primary school life is the most carefree time of one's life. And that I shouldn't take all these for granted.

2) Sing one verse of your school song.
Okay, honestly, I can't remember the lyrics. So I took this from Serene:

Come let's learn together, in this happy loving school.
Years pass with memories as we leave this jolly group.
There's work of many sorts, we all must take our share.
The future's bright for us, as we strive for the glorious goal.

Come let's live together, in this happy family.
Can't really remember the 2nd verse. someone fill it up for me pls. =x

Come let's work together, in this _________.
Everyone has a part to play (many thought it is 1-2-3! LOL!) and a duty to fulfil.
To strive for achievement, there is no other way.
The future's bright for us, as we strive for the glorious goal.
The future's bright for us, as we strive...for the...glo-rious...gooalll..... :D

3) What was your favourite question?
My favourite question is, 'may I know what this question is asking about?!?' LOL.

4) Who/what will you remember from your primary school?
Everyone, everything. They shaped my primary school life the way it is.

5) Any memories you will forget.
That I was once a Mophead? Hahaha.

I shall tag this to my primary school buddies: Hweeli and Zhiying!
